Hey guys, my name is Matty! I am the newbie of Nick Drollette Photography. I am so excited to share more about what is going on in my life and being able to capture tons of memories for everyone to enjoy. Today, I am going to be talking about something that I love and will always be close to my heart. I began dancing when I was six years old and continued until I was seventeen. This year I was able to photograph my dear friend, Taylor Jordan, through her senior year of dance. I don't think I truly understood the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words" until I had the opportunity to take pictures behind the scenes at Montgomery Ballet's Cinderella. Being able to capture Taylor while she was just catching a breath before running back on stage, all the girls making sure they had everything needed for a costume change, and everyone touching up their lipstick (or sneaking a piece of chocolate) was absolutely incredible! The passion I could see in the dancers was almost overwhelming! I was so amazed with the story that took place back stage and, when I got my film developed, the pictures meant so much more to me. Experiencing all the practices they had to go through to learn the parts and seeing their perseverance made the final performance that much more beautiful to me. Because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if your picture is in focus or properly exposed. As long as you can see a story in your photographs, that's what matters!!
