A bridal portrait is a formal picture of the bride in her wedding dress. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of having a bridal session done.

If you want to have a bridal portrait to showcase at your reception then we will need to do a bridal session at least 4 weeks prior to your wedding. This will give us time to edit the session and get your portrait printed and framed. A bridal session is also a great opportunity to have a trial run of your hair and makeup. It will allow you to see your complete wedding look and gives us a chance to get a great portrait of just you without an impatient groom or a family member rushing you. A bridal portrait also makes a great gift for the bride to give to her parents. However, what most people don't realize is that we do photograph pictures of just the bride on her wedding day. So if you don't want a portrait of yourself at the reception then you could use that money towards something else in your wedding budget.

One of the most common questions we are asked is, "Should we do a first look?" Most of our brides do choose to see their groom before the vows. I would recommend this route simply because it makes the day flow so much better. Nobody wants to feel rushed, especially on a wedding day, and that includes your photographers. A first look allows you to get 80% of your portraits done before the ceremony which then permits you to get to your reception quicker. The first look also gives you an opportunity to relax for a minute with your soon-to-be-spouse and to get out any last minute jitters. Some of the best pictures that we've taken are from that moment with just the bride and groom. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I will admit that I did not see Elizabeth on our wedding day until she walked down the aisle in her beautiful lace gown and that is something I will never forget.
